The Province of Noord-Holland is organising the international water conference 'Day of the Deltas' during ‘SAIL Amsterdam’, the largest nautical event in the world.

Day of the Deltas’ offers a platform for knowledge exchange between (inter)national policy makers, directors from industry and knowledge organisations on water safety and environmental quality when implementing major works on the coast and levees.

In many places in the world, climate-resistant water management plays a central role in spatial planning. Climate change has highlighted the urgent need for defence against the water in the low-lying provinces of the Netherlands. This was confirmed by the Dutch “Delta Committee” in the summer of 2008. Due to the necessity to provide flood protection, water has become an important steering factor in area development. I feel that countries facing similar problems relating to water safety can learn from each other. The international water conference ‘Day of the Deltas’ will explore ambitions, short and long term measures relating to climate adaptation, and knowledge exchange between (international) delta networks.

The full program and registration possibilities will be sent to you in May. For more information, please contact Ms Lilian Bernhardi on: +31 (0)23 5144717, or send an e-mail to dayofthedeltas@noord-holland.nl.
